It is very irritating when there are a lot of duplicate files in your system. There files seems to cover a large part of memory space and that too of no use. But when the turn comes to remove them, no one likes it. Of course, it will be the consumption of a lot of time. And keep on comparing the files to just delete them is not a good option. So, better you have an automated option for that. To solve this problem I found a utility known as Dup Scout. It will prove to be very helpful.
Duo Scout is a very small freeware of 3.88 MB. It will find all the duplicate files within the directory or folder you choose. The user interface has been displayed in the snapshot below.


Select the location where you want to search the duplicate files. Click on Duplicates and a new dialog box as shown in the snapshot below. You can make the required changes. Few sub folders can be excluded which need not to be tracked. You can choose certain rules and the speed at which the process is to be carried out. Similarly, you can choose actions. After all the settings has been done, you have to click on Start button.

The processing is a bit slow but the results will display all the duplicate files. The duplicate detected are divided in two parts as shown in the snapshot below. First part will display the filename, number of duplicates and the space wasted by it. The second part will display the division of results based on certain criteria and the percentage coverage by that part. The division can be based upon extension, file size, access time, modification time, creation type, username and type. Select any of the required type from the drop down menu and the corresponding percentage will displayed for the sub categories.

You can see the charts, actions taken (if any), database, layout and profile. You can see the chart of the result in the snapshot below. There are two formats for charts: pie chart or bar chart. You copy it to the clipboard. So, the utility will represent the results in almost all the useful formats. You can analyze the data and then make the required changes.

So make you work easy with Dup Scout and remove all the duplicate files easily and efficiently.
